Facts about Gemini

Gemini is the astrological sign of the twins. The constellation of Gemini is made up of 85 stars, which are visible to the naked eye. There are probably many more we can’t see.

The brightest of these are two stars called Castor and Pollux. The name Gemini was given to this constellation because of Castor and Pollux. Gemini in Latin means ‘the twins’ and is gender-neutral.

 

Greek mythology

Legend says that there was once a beautiful Queen of Sparta called Leda who was married to Tyndareus, the King of Sparta. They had a beautiful boy who they called Castor. The God Zeus took a liking to Queen Leda and this led to the birth of another son, Pollux. Pollux was immortal like his father Zeus, but Castor was not.

These two children grew up together and became great friends, until one day Castor died. Their love was so strong that Pollux begged Zeus, his father to make Castor immortal too. Zeus agreed and made them both stars in the sky.  Stars after all, exist beyond time.

 

Gemini the star sign

Gemini has long been associated with the lover’s card in the tarot deck or, as two parts of the human psyche – the masculine and the feminine, the Ying and the Yang and also, the light and dark side of human nature. This duality is what colours the nature of all of those born during this season.

Those born during this time can have two sides to their personality, and their ability to reflect these different aspects of themselves at any given moment can lead them into the world of acting and fashion.
