Oracle Cards and Tarot Card Packs:

Today’s focus is on how to go about choosing a Tarot or Oracle card pack, be it for personal use or to read for others.

It can be overwhelming to know which pack to get, with many varieties available to choose from in today’s market, and you may ask yourself why are there are so many available to choose from?

The reason is because by having so many varieties, it gives people the opportunity to choose a pack that is meaningful to their individual and personal tastes.

When I originally started using the Tarot cards back in late nineteen seventies there where only a couple of packs available to buy, the most common being the Rider Waite pack which were quite ominous.

Today’s varieties seem more uplifting which is important as generally when someone comes for a reading, they may  need hope or insight into what’s been happening or answers to their questions, so to work on giving a more holistic reading for someone is a more supportive and understanding way to read, this also reflects how we have changed our way of thinking in general, by having a more optimistic outlook.

You may also have seen that some of the same packs of Tarot cards like the Rider Waite pack, comes in a variety of different shades of the original card colours, so this also gives people a choice when choosing this pack.

 

Choosing a Pack:

The most important thing to remember when choosing a Pack of Cards, is to spend a bit of time noticing which packs you are drawn to or the ones that stand out or attract your attention.

If possible, try to get a look at what the pack of cards you are interested in look like, by previewing all the cards in that pack. This is important as some packs only have a few pictorial cards and the rest are symbols, which can be hard to read, especially if you are new at reading. There are a few packs available online which give you this option to view the whole deck of a pack.

It is important to feel a sense of Connection with a pack and that you can understand what the card meanings represent, as well as having your own sense of what each card can mean to you.

So the general rule when choosing a tarot pack, is not to rush into buying one or being advised by others what they feel would be the right pack for you, but instead listen to your intuition and choose ones that you are drawn to or feel that you resonate with, it can help to think about the type of readings you want to do – is it to help others, or will the pack be used for self-reflection?  At the end of the day, going by your intuition is the best way to go, as you will rarely be wrong!
